SUMMARY:Synergies from a joint analysis of photometry, spectroscopy and mor
phology of early-type galaxies in MaNGA
DESCRIPTION:Synergies from a joint analysis of photometry, spectroscopy and
morphology of early-type galaxies in MaNGA\nProf. Mariangela Bernardi\n\n
Stellar populations vary across the galaxy population. However, even withi
n a single galaxy, there are stellar population gradients which spatially
resolved spectroscopic studies are beginning to reveal. The MaNGA survey p
ermits a study of gradients in a sample of early-type galaxies which is ne
arly two orders of magnitude larger than previous work. This allows us to
quantify the effects of gradients on estimates of the stellar and dynamica
l masses of these galaxies, and to study how age and abundance gradients,
and thus star formation and assembly histories, vary across the population
. In this talk I will present results from our recent analysis.\n \nz
