SUMMARY:Stellar Rotation in the Gaia Era: Gyrochronology Under Inspection
DESCRIPTION:Stellar Rotation in the Gaia Era: Gyrochronology Under Inspecti
on\nDr. Diego Godoy-Rivera\n\nRotation plays an important role in the life
of stars and offers a potential diagnostic to infer their ages and that o
f their planets. This idea is known as gyrochronology, and if properly cal
ibrated, its applications to Galactic, stellar, and exoplanetary astrophys
ics would be far-reaching. Nevertheless, while potentially fruitful over a
wide range of ages and masses, recent results have raised concerns regard
ing gyrochronology’s applicability. In this talk, I will present the
opportunities that the Gaia astrometry has opened to address these issues
. First, regarding rotation’s classical calibrators, I will illustra
te the impact that removing the non-member contamination has on the rotati
onal sequences of open clusters. Second, I will present a novel method tha
t tests the state-of-the-art gyrochronology relations in under-explore dom
ains using wide binary stars. Finally, I will discuss the prospects for ex
panding the existing rotational constraints in unprecedented regimes using
 data from the TESS mission.
