SUMMARY:SMACK 22: Backups (& encryption) of your laptop data
DESCRIPTION:SMACK 22: Backups (& encryption) of your laptop data\nDr. Ánge
l de Vicente\n\nGone are the days when we used workstations as our main da
y to day\ncomputer. Backing-up your data has always been important, but th
e risks\nwere much fewer then. Today, when most of us use a laptop as our
main\ncomputer, the risks are much higher: added to human error, disk\nfai
lures, etc. we have to consider that losing, dropping or getting your\nlap
top stolen is a real possibility, which brings the added risk of\ngetting
your sensitive data accessed by prying eyes.\n\nIn this talk I will share
my overall backup plan. While my setting is\nlikely more complicated than
that of most of you, hopefully you can mix\n& match the strategies and
tools that I use (mainly Borg, but also\nTimeshift, Clonezilla, Syncthing
, gocryptfs, ...) to suit your needs.\n\nWhile a complete and thorough bac
kup plan might take some time to\nprepare and execute, you shouldn't postp
one it. Something is better than\nnothing!, and you can start with somethi
ng very simple, which can be\nvery easy to implement, and can be improved
over time.
