SUMMARY:Past and Present of Dwarf Galaxies in Clusters
DESCRIPTION:Past and Present of Dwarf Galaxies in Clusters\nDr. Thorsten Li
sker\n\nDwarf galaxies are a complex population. They comprise objects wit
h young and old stellar populations, slow and fast rotation, as well as s
ingle- and multi-component structure. These characteristics show correlat
ions with environmental density - we thus believe that dwarf galaxies hol
d a fossil record of how environment affected galaxy evolution. In this t
alk I will review and discuss recent progress on our understanding of dwa
rf galaxies in clusters, both from the observational and the modelling si
de. In particular, I will attempt to reconcile the proposed formation mec
hanisms of early-type dwarf galaxies - the most abundant population in cl
usters - with the continuous environmental influence predicted by cosmolo
 gical simulations.
