High-performance control for adaptive optics
Abstract
In this talk, I will start by briefly presenting the Institut d'Optique Graduate School and the Laboratoire Charles Fabry, where I conduct my research. Then I will explain the principle of adaptive optics and discuss some issues related to the control of AO systems. This will lead to the general ideas behind high-performance control. In particular, I will explain why high-performance control can outperform the standard integrator. Some results of on-sky experiments will be shown, and I will conclude the talk by presenting our PhD students working through research collaborations.

About the speaker
Prof. Caroline Kulcsár obtained her PhD in 1995 with Université Paris-Sud. She started at the Université Paris 13 in 1999 as Associate Professor, and began working on adaptive optics (AO) control in 2001. In 2012, she joined as Full Professor the Laboratoire Charles Fabry at Institut d'Optique Graduate School (Université Paris-Saclay), where she is head of the “Adaptive Optics” team, conducting research on modelling and control for AO systems. She has participated in many AO projects including European projects (H2020 ORP & OPTICON, FP7 OPTICON, CANARY) and has conducted expert assessments for Gemini and the TMT. She is co-chair of the OSA topical meeting on Adaptive Optics since 2018.
