Luca Gerardo Giorda

Dr. Luca Gerardo-Giorda is an expert in modeling and numerical simulation of biomedical problems. He graduated in Mathematics from University of Turin and received a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Trento. He has been awarded a Marie Curie Industry Fellowship in 2003, and qualified as Professor in Applied Mathematics by the French Ministry of University in 2014. After completing his PhD, he worked on applied interdisciplinary research at several institutions in Europe (U. Trento, Ecole Polytechnique, Institut Francais du Petrole). In 2008 he joined Emory University (USA), to work on optimizing the computational costs of numerical simulations in electrocardiology. In 2010 he was awarded a Fellowship at the Center for Disease Ecology at Emory to study infectious disease dynamics by combining analytics and computer simulations tied to public health data sets.

In late 2011 he joined BCAM, and since 2014 he is leading the research line in Mathematical Modeling in Biosciences (MMB). Dr. Gerardo-Giorda authored several publications on international journals, andis currently involved in several research projects in the simulation of the cardiovascular and the central nervous system, in collaboration with the BioCruces Research Center in Bilbao, the Hospital St. Cruz i St Pau in Barcelona, INRIA in France, and some universities in the USA (Emory, URI, CWRU).
