Abstract:

Astronomy is the science that studies the objects that populate our universe beyond the confines of our planet. Although the light is responsible for transmit the necessary information to study these objects, the eye is not the only tool that the human being has to acquire such information. This means that a person with visual disability can access that knowledge if it is properly disseminated and, moreover, he/she can professionally engage in this exciting branch of science. In this lecture Enrique Pérez Montero will talk about his experience as a professional astronomer affiliated with the ONCE and he will give us a brief walk around the Universe with no need of visual contemplation.

Dr. Enrique Pérez-Montero is tenure scientist in the Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía - CSIC in Granada (Spain). He is visually impaired and he belongs to the Spanish National Organization for Blind People (ONCE) where he collaborates for the diffusion of the astronomy for the visually impaired people.
