School on the Exploitation of Extragalactic Surveys

The IAC is organising in La Laguna (Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain) an international school devoted to the design and scientific exploitation of big extragalactic surveys.

Start date: 16 June, 2014
End date: 20 June, 2014
Location: Faculty of Physics, Universidad de La Laguna, Tenerife.
Organizer: Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias/Universidad de La Laguna

The shool is aimed to PhD students and recent Post-Docs, and involves invited lectures from distinguished scholars as well as hands-on tutorials. It will detail the existing and planned surveys, and study in this context the high redshift galaxies, the galaxy formation and evolution and the large scale structures and clusters of galaxies. It will also review the Galactic Halo through extragalactic surveys and give a view of the Local Group as a proxy for galaxy evolution. Hands-on workshops will be devoted to data mining, analysis tools and photo-z.

The school will be held from 16th to 20th June 2014 at the Faculty of Physics of the Universidad de La Laguna. Registration is open until April 30th. Funds are available to support some students applying for a grant (deadline April 15th). The funds will cover lodging and/or the registration fees.

The School is partly financed by the Severo Ochoa Program.
