About the speaker
BIO: Belen Gavela is a particle physics phenomenologist, with pioneering works in Higgs, neutrino and axion physics. She did her PhD at Univ. of Paris-Sud (Orsay), has been a postdoc at Brandeis and Harvard Universities, and staff at CERN. She currently is Full Professor (Catedrática) in the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and was a founding member of its Institute for Theoretical Physics (IFT-UAM/CSIC). Belén has had a leading role in four large EU-funded projects and have been a member of various scientific committees shaping the scientific strategy in physics in Europe and worldwide. Finally, she is deeply committed to fostering and gender-balanced and inclusive science environment: She was the first female scientist ever to have been offered and to hold a staff position at CERN TH Division, and also the first female particle physicist to become Full Professor in Spain.
